Abstract
1,151,249. Counterbalanced crank-shaft driven machines. BRUDERER A.G. 29 Nov., 1966 [2 Dec., 1965], No. 53309/66. Heading F2X. A machine such as a crank and punch press or embossing machine comprises a member 3, e.g., a piston or crosshead, mounted for reciprocation by a crank-shaft 1 and connecting-rod 2, and two counterweights 7 connected to the member 3 by a pivoted rod 5 and a pivoted lever 6 so as to move in the opposite sense to the member 3, the counterweights being restrained at their ends remote from the member 3 by means which prevent uncontrolled swinging thereof. These means may comprise pivoted levers 10 and pivoted rods 9 and 11, whereby the counterweights are also caused to have a transverse component of movement to balance the forces arising from the rotation of the crank-shaft. In simpler embodiments the counterweights are simply pivoted together at their remote ends (Fig. 2, not shown) or each pivoted to a fixed point by a rod (8, Fig. 1, not shown).
