Abstract
1,150,881. Stacking-apparatus; reciprocating conveyers. DAVY & UNITED ENG. CO. Ltd. 14 June, 1966 [14 June, 1965]. No. 24995/65. Headings B8A and B8C. A device for stacking elongate articles includes a platform 23 reciprocatable between a withdrawn position as shown, and a forward position above a table 33, detents 40 being provided to allow movement of articles on the platform 23 into the forward positionbut to strip the articles from the platform during reverse movement thereof, thereby depositing the articles on to the table 33. The backward movement of the platform may occur at a relatively high speed or a relatively low speed. In the embodiment described, elongate angle girders are carried to the device on a fixed roller conveyer 12 from which they are removed singly or in groups by dogs 15 travelling in rails 14 and fixed to an endless chain or rope conveyer 13. The girders are pushed by the dogs 15 to a position above the platform 23 in its withdrawn state, passing over a pivotal detent 30 on the platform. The dogs are then returned along the rails 14, the girders being retained on arms 24 of the platform 23 by the detent 30. The platform 23 is driven into its forward position, the girders pushing past the detents 40. When the platform 23 has been returned to its withdrawn position, leaving the girders on the table 33, a further layer is delivered by the dogs 15, and the process is repeated. The drive causing the withdrawal of the platform 23 from beneath each layer of girders may be rapid, in which case the girders fall directly on to the table 33 maintaining their original orientation, or slow, in which case the girders tip over through 180 degrees in falling, and if the withdrawals of the platform are successively fast and slow adjacent layers of the resulting stack nest into one another. If other forms of girder are being stacked the withdrawals may all be made rapidly, but the detents 40 may be moved by motors 41 in a direction parallel to that of the movement of the platform 23, so that alternate layers on the table 33 are displaced relative to one another, and nest in one another. After the stack has been formed the table 33 is lowered, depositing the stack on arms 36A of a trolley 36 running on rails 38. The trolley is then rolled from beneath the table 33, and the nested stack may be removed by a crane. The opposite end of the conveyer 13 may be provided with a similar stacking device, and for this purpose the dogs 15 may have two arms (16, 17), Fig. 2 (not shown), pivoted about an axis (15A) so that they can push girders in either direction.
