Abstract

1,150,066. Combustible gas. GAS COUNCIL. 15 Dec., 1966 [28 Dec., 1965], No. 54955/65. Addition to 969,637. Heading C5E. The invention, a method of producing methane-containing gases, is similar to that described in the parent Specification, but the catalyst contains at least 40% nickel and from 0À1 to 0À75% of an alkali metal in the form of an oxide, hydroxide, or carbonate, the percentages being calculated by weight of the metal in each case on the combined weights of the nickel and the alumina. The method is intended for predominantly paraffinic hydrocarbon feedstock having a final boiling point of 170‹ C., the feed in vapour form, with steam, being passed at 350‹ to 600‹ C. into a bed of the catalyst which is maintained at 400‹ to 600‹ C.
