Abstract
1,140,396. Straightening. M. VON BUSHE and T. ALTENBRACHT [trading as TH. KIESERLING & ALBRECHT]. 4 April, 1966 [17 Sept., 1965], No. 14880/66. Heading B3E. Elongated hollow bodies, e.g. pipes of non- circular section, are straightened by being fed by rollers through a series of straightening means some of which bend the pipe without exceeding the yield point while one supplies a bending force which in conjunction with the bending forces applied by the first said straightening means is sufficient to bend the pipe beyond its yield point. Pipe 37 to be straightened is fed by driven rollers a through straightener sets b, c, d, the sets c applying a bending force P1 insufficient to bend the pipe beyond its yield point, while the set d applies a small additional force P2 which in conjunction with the forces applied by the sets c cause the pipe to be bent beyond its yield point. The straightener sets may be arranged so that five, rather than three, sets apply the required bending force. The straightener sets b, which function to absorb thrust forces produced by the bending, each comprise, rollers 12, Fig. 5, surrounding the pipe and carried by a support 11. The suppor 11 is adjustable vertically by a screw actuated lever 30 pivoted at 31, and the pivot 31 is carried in a support 32 adjustable to and from the pipe axis by a screw 34. The straightener sets c, d each comprise rollers 12a, Fig. 4, carried by a support 11a mounted on a lever 13 accommodating, in a slideway 27, a sliding block 26 on a pivot 25 carried by a pedestal 25a adjustable to and from the axis of the pipe during operation, by a screw 29. The other end of the lever is journalled on an eccentric 19, Fig. 6, keyed on a drive shaft 15 common to the straighteners c and d and serving, in operation, bodily to move the straightener sets. The eccentricity of the member 15 is adjustable, during operation, by wedge means 14 actuated by a worm 24, thus to vary the movement of the straightener set.
