Abstract
1,133,462. Developing electrostatic images. RANK XEROX Ltd. Dec.14, 1965 [Dec.28, 1964], No.53121/65. Heading G2H. A method of developing latent electrostatic images comprises cascading a mixture of granular carrier and toner particles across the image bearing member and contacting the member with a fluid suspension of toner particles to provide for edge and solid area development. The fluid suspension may be formed in gas or liquid, e.g. air, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen, trichlorotrifluorethane or Sobio Odourless solvent. Cascade development is carried out in known manner by a bucket conveyer 34, Fig.4. As developer 31 cascades over drum 21 toner particles are separated from carrier particles and deposited to form a visible image. Unused developer is guided down shoot 32 where it is formed into a cloud by applying a potential to shoot 32. Toner particles pass through a screen 33 adjacent the drum. The direction of drum 21 may be reversed to carry out the powder cloud development before the cascade development In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown) the developer is cascaded into the space between a screen (33') and shoot (32').
