Abstract
1,131,271. Decorative panels. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. 30 Dec., 1965 [22 Sept., 1965], No. 55246/65. Heading B6G. [Also in Divisions B2, B3 and B5] A method of imparting recessed areas to a fibrous panel comprises coating areas of the panel with a material which imparts resistance to erosion, said material penetrating the upper surface of and forming a permanent part of the fibrous panel, and then abrasively treating the panel, e.g. by sand blasting. The fibrous panel may be fibreboard. The resist material may be applied by a printing process, e.g. a silk screen printing process. Examples of resist material include a polyvinyl chloride plastisol, polyvinyl acetate latex, butyl rubber latex. The fibrous panel may be cleaned say with streams of compressed air subsequent to the abrasive treatment. The abrasive may consist of particles of walnut shell, and the maximum abrasive particle size may be 0À025 inch diameter. The abrasively treated panel may be provided with a finish coat of material such as paint. The panels may be used as sound absorbent, decorative ceiling tiles.
