Abstract
1,130,127. Purifying carbon dioxide. LINDE A.G. 15 Feb., 1967 [17 Feb., 1966], No. 7210/67. Heading C1A. Hydrogen sulphide is removed from carbon dioxide, or a gas mixture containing carbon dioxide, by scrubbing the gas with an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide. Preferably the concentration of hydrogen peroxide is 1 to 30% by weight (3 to 8% being particularly preferred) and alkali, e.g. sodium carbonate or bicarbonate, is added to the starting solution in approximately 10% excess of the quantity required to neutralize the sulphuric acid formed by the process. The scrubbing temperature lies preferably between ambient temperature and the freezing point of the solution, but may be higher. Scrubbing pressure may be atmospheric or superatmospheric.
