Abstract

1,129,522. Electric motors. CONSOLIDATED ELECTRONICS INDUSTRIES CORP. 6 Oct., 1965 [9 Oct., 1964], No. 42416/65. Heading H2A. A stepping motor has two similarly constructed stator assemblies each comprising a coil 22, 31 wound on bobbins 23, 32 and having interdigitated poles 26, 27; 28, 34, respectively, wherein the poles 26, 27 are displaced by 90 degrees electrical from poles 28, 34 and poles 27, 28 are formed from a single disc 24. A permanent magnet rotor assembly comprising a ferrite ring 36 with equally spaced polar regions mounted inside a cup-shaped yoke 38 is mounted on shaft 39 and surrounds the stator assemblies. The whole motor is mounted within a casing 43 which has an aperture in it for viewing digits marked on the outer periphery of yoke 38. The coils are axially spaced apart by a ferromagnetic disc 24 having projections which are bent axially in opposite directions to form the poles 27, 28 and discs 18, 33 lying at-the other ends of coils 22; 31, respectively, have projections which are bent axially towards disc 24 to provide poles 26, 34, respectively. The stator assemblies are each mounted on a soft iron sleeve 19, 29 which fit on to a fixed hollow cylindrical core 14 which houses: the shaftbearings 16, 17. Each coil is centre-tapped and connected to a change-over switch, which may be mechanical or electronic, to provide a current flow in the windings such that the rotor can be stepped sequentially around in either direction. If the motor is to be connected to an A.C. supply a phase-displacing capacitor is included in the circuit of one coil. In a modification, the permanent magnet rotor is placed inside the stator structure which again consists of two axially spaced stator assemblies provided'with an interdigitated pole structure, Fig. 6 (not shown). When the motor is used as a counter on a scale of 10 there will be five poles on each stator disc and the width of thesepoles will be 18 degrees. A number of motors may be assembled together to form a multi-digit counter.
