Abstract
1,126,728. Air break isolating switches. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 28 July, 1967 [21 Oct., 1966], No. 34742/67. Heading H1N. An isolating switch has a pair of fixed spring clip contacts 48, 92 supported on spaced insulators 32, 36 and a pivoted blade 42 bridging them. The blade is rotatably mounted in a hinge member 72 mounted to pivot about a fixed axis 84, perpendicular to the blade 42, in a bracket 80 on the insulator 36. An arm 90 extends at 45 degrees to the blade 42 and is pivoted to a crank 52 on a rotatable insulator 34. As insulator 34 is rotated to open the switch, the blade turns about its own axis to free the contacts 48, 42A and about axis 84 to separate them. Connection between contact 92 and blade 42 is maintained after they separate by a conducting C-shaped spring (112) interposed between the hinge member 72 and blade 42, preventing sparking at the hinge. Bronze sleeve bearings (142, 144) coated with low friction P.T.F.E. are located on either side of the spring (112) between the hinge member 72 and blade 42. The spring (112) is of phosphor bronze or zirconium-copper alloy.
