Abstract
1,122,817. Mixing gases in proportion. INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANCAISE. 20 Dec., 1965 [23 Dec., 1964], No. 53876/65. Heading B1C. Two or more gases are mixed in proportion by passing each gas down a conduit 5a or 5b with a constant pressure drop and have the gases maintained at constant absolute pressures at both the inlet and outlet of the conduit by regulators 4a, b, 6a, b. The conduit may comprise a capillary tube 5a or 5b or a tube filled with an inert granular or calcined material, and a conduit may be preceeded by a plurality of such conduits each with a different pressure drop and connectable in parallel to give the necessary gas flow for the desired proportion. The mixture is obtained either by passing each gas singly through the conduit for a given time at given pressures into a reservoir or by passing each gas continuously through its own conduit and combining the gases at a common outlet 14 for a continuous discharge. In another embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) each constituent gas supply is connected by a multiway cock (20) to a single conduit (5) and the cock operates automatically to pass the gases singly for various time periods into a reservoir (22).
