Abstract
A coated welding rod used for welding alloys with a carbon content lower than 0.3% has a coating comprising a maximum of 6% basic carbonates, a maximum of 1% organic materials, 3.5-10% deoxidizing agents 3-10% free MgO, 3-10% free Al2O3, the weight ratio of free MgO to free Al2O3 being 0.3 to 3.33, 13-35% of metal powders, TiO2 and/or ZrO2 free or combined, silicates, binding agents such as alkali silicates and fluxing agents such as alkaline or alkaline earth fluorides and cryloite. The following composition range is disclosed:- <TABS:1119435/C6-C7/1> The metal powders added, which enter into the weld metal may be Cr, Ni, Mo, Ti, Nb and their alloys or ferro alloys. The deoxidizing agents may be Fe-Mn, Fe-Ti, Fe-Si-Ti or metals such as Mg, Al, Ti, Si, Ca. The dry powders are mixed with aqueous alkaline silicates and the paste coated on the welding rod e.g. a stainless steel rod.
