Abstract

1,115,825. Caps for bottles etc.; capping bottles &c. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. 6 Oct., 1966 [8 Oct., 1965], No. 44713/66. Heading B8T. A tamper-proof cap 10 for a bottle &c. 22 has a security band 18 with a rolled-in edge 20 which is pressed under and into a groove 23 around the bottle &c. neck, a layer of gasket material 16 in the cap flowing into cam grooves 26 around the neck and setting in these grooves when the cap is applied to the bottle &c. Vertical grooves 21 in the security band 21 slide over projections 36 around the bottle &c. neck. When the cap 10 is unscrewed, the solidified lugs formed by the gasket material 16 cam the cap upwards on the bottle neck as they slide out of the cam grooves 26; the interengaging grooves and projections 21, 31 in the security band and around the bottle neck prevent the band from turning. Thus bridge sections 19 between the cap body 10 and the security band 18 are broken, and the latter slides free down the bottle &c. neck. A punch (33), Fig. 3 (not shown), of ring shape, is used to press the rolledin edge 20 of the cap 10 into the neck groove 23. In a modification, the cam grooves 26 are replaced by cam grooves (56), Figs. 6-9 (not shown), around the outer side face of the bottle &c. neck.
