A porous pile fabric has the warp 1 and weft 2 disposed in groups and has leno warp threads 3 surrounding the interwoven areas. Pile warp threads 1 also take part in the leno weaving and are looped over pile wires at 5, which may be treated to set the pile to the shape of the wires. The pile loops may be cut at the top or at the side (to produce hocked pile). Heating by hot air, steam, lamps, molten metal baths, or hot sand baths may be applied to the cut or uncut pile. The fabric may be sized, air jets being used to prevent a film. of size from blocking the apertures. The fabric may be used for hair curlers or belts.
