Abstract

1,105, 915. Rotary pumps and engines. R. BALVE and A. FEIDT. June 25, 1965 [June 26, 1964], No.27007/65. Heading F1F. A rotary I. C. engine of the sliding-rocking vane type comprises a stationary housing 55 having an inner peripheral surface 18 of substantially elliptical profile and containing a hollow rotor 1 of circular configuration, a plurality of vanes or blades 3--6 being supported in the rotor by partcylindrical bearing-members 2 and individually coupled at their innermost ends to corresponding eccentrics 7--10 on a rotatable shaft 11 that is connected to the rotor by gears 37, 38 so as to effect contra-rotation at similar angular velocities. A power-output shaft 43 is attached to a flange 51 constituting a part of the rotor, a further flange 50 on the opposite side of the rotor being integral with a hollow rotatable-shaft 45 that is coaxial with the shaft 11. Bearings 40, 41 for the shaft 11 are lodged in the flanges 51, 50, respectively, whereas bearings 35, 36 for the shafts 43, 45 are mounted in end walls 27, 21 of the housing. Stationary sealing-rings 28, 29 are pressed against the rims of the flanges 51, 50, respectively, by a plurality of springs 26 to prevent cooling medium from entering working spaces 14, 17, 18 from cooling chambers 48, 49 that are sealed by further rings 30, 31, 34, 46. Radial sealing-strips 13 are provided in the outermost edges of the vanes. Oil is injected into the rotor through passages 60 in the vanes 3--6, the oil being subsequently ejected from the rotor through passages 63 in the sides thereof, passages 62 in the flanges 50, 51, and annular passages 61 in the end walls 21, 27 due to centrifugal action. Oil-collecting grooves 56, 57 in the bearing- members 2 and bores wherein said members are situated, respectively, have their ends in communication with the aforesaid passages 62. In operation, fuel-air mixture enters the housing through a passage 19 and is compressed by the vanes before being ignited by a spark-plug 15, the products of combustion being ejected after undergoing expansion through a passage 20. Recesses 23 in the periphery of the rotor permit communication between the two halves of a working chamber 14 wherein combustion occurs. It is stated that the engine can be adapted to operate as a blower, compressor or pump.
