Abstract
1,086,897. Harvesting attachments. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. Nov. 30 1964 [Dec. 2, 1963], No. 48536/64. Heading A1F. A crop cutting attachment for a harvester comprises a mower assembly 25 behind which are positioned two pairs of augers, one pair on either side of a crop collection area 20. The rear augers 18 are of larger diameter than and are positioned at a higher level than the front augers 22. The augers are driven through a belt and pulley arrangement from a power take off shaft 50, and are supported at their inner ends by brackets 34, 60 (Figs. 1, 2). In operation the crop is cut by the reciprocating knife blade 26 and the cut crop passes over guard members 65 on to the upper parts of the augers and guard members 15 and is then transferred by the augers to the area 20. In an alternative embodiment the augers 18, 22 may be connected by core portions 30g, 54a, (Fig. 4) respectively to which vanes 30n, 54b, are adjustably attached, and in a further embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) the augers may be supported only at their outer, driven ends, and a platform may extend beneath each pair of augers and may be formed integrally with either or both the guard members 15, 65. The speeds of rotation of the augers are inversely proportional to their overall diameters.
