Abstract

1,083,041. Laminates and laminating. B. RUDLOFF. Feb. 17, 1965 [Feb. 29, 1964], No. 6770/65. Heading B5N. Layers of fibrous materials 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, containing powdered adhesive and formed on foraminated rollers 7, 7<SP>1</SP> by suction from a fan 11, are fed between rollers 10 and 10<SP>1</SP> on to a foraminated belt and thence led by belts 15, 16 to a chamber 17 and heated by hot air, supplied by nozzles 18, to melt or polymerize the adhesive. The fibres are formed by standard weighing- carding apparatus 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, powdered adhesive is supplied at 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, and rollers 4, 4<SP>1</SP> and carding rollers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> supply them under suction within cowls 6, 61 to the rollers 7, 7<SP>1</SP>. Suction in part of the rollers is blocked off by shields 19, 19<SP>1</SP>. Apparatus 13 supplies additional materials such as asbestos, slag or sawdust,. with or without powdered adhesive, for thermal or acoustic insulation. Alternatively a centre layer of textile, glass or metal fabric or parallel threads may be supplied. The fibres may be of cotton, wool, jute &c. and the two layers may be of the same or different materials and thicknesses.
