Abstract
1,056,997. Lathes. PAUL FORKARDT K.G. March 19, 1964 [March 19, 1963]. No. 11759/64. Headings B3B and B3T. In a lathe, a spindle 1 carries an outer clamping chuck 3 and contains a sliding member 5 carrying a clamping means 6 which can be clamped by the chuck-jaws. In operation, a workpiece 4 is gripped by the jaws 3 while it is machined. The clamping device 6 is then advanced by a piston 8 and is expanded by a conical wedge 12a operated by a piston 11 to grip the work internally. The chuck 3 is released and the clamp 6 with the work is then advanced clear of the chuck 3 by a sliding cylinder 9 and the sliding member 5 is clamped and steadied by the chuck-jaw surfaces 3a. Further surfaces of the work are then machined. The sequence of operations may be reversed.
