Abstract
1,050,393. Treating polyester yarn. TEIJIN Ltd. Jan. 26, 1965 [Feb. 5, 1964], No. 3438/65. Heading B5B. In a process for making polyester fibres of improved dyeability, an undrawn yarn of terephthalate polyester fibres having a birefringence of 0À005 to 0À025 is drawn at 40-95 C. at a draw ratio ranging from the minimum draw ratio (as defined) to a ratio 0À5 higher than this, and the undrawn yarn is then heattreated at 100-220 C. while allowing it to shrink. Terephthalate polyester is defined as polyester derived from a dihydric alcohol and a dibasic acid component at least 85 mol. per cent of which is terephthalic acid. The heating of the fibres both during stretching and the subsequent heat-treatment, may be effected by passing the fibres through a hot gas or liquid, or by contacting them with a hot solid surface. The yarn may be cut into staple fibre before or after the heat-treatment step, or may be subjected to an additional drawing step. In examples, melt-spun fibres of polyethylene terephthalate are drawn to ratios of 1À10/1 to 3À45/1 at 45-90 C. and then heat-treated at 130-180 C.
