Abstract

Calcium metasilicate uncontaminated by mineralizer is synthesized by subjecting an intimately ground, equimolar mixture of sand and limestone to the action of steam in an electric kiln at not less than 1100 DEG C., and maintaining the temperature and steam circulation for at least 5 hours to obtain after gradual cooling, a friable white mass. To prepare the b -form the reaction temperature is 1100 DEG -1130 DEG C. but for the a -form it must be 1200 DEG -1250 DEG C.
