Abstract

1,045,943. Securing knobs on shafts. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 8, 1965 [June 9, 1964], No. 24194/65. Heading F2U. A knob 1 is secured on a shaft by an axially split sleeve 5 having conical outer surfaces at one end co-operating with corresponding surfaces on a bush 3 fast with the knob 1 so that the sleeve is contracted on to the shaft when it is drawn axially into the bush 3 by a nut 9. As shown a flange 15 of the nut 9 engages a recess in the bush so that release of the nut 9 forces the sleeve 5 out of the bush. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the nut 9 is threaded both internally and externally, the external threads engaging corresponding threads on the bush 3 and being of a different pitch or opposite hand to the internal threads so that rotation of the nut in one direction draws the sleeve into the bush and rotation in the other direction forces the sleeve out of the bush.
