Abstract

1,042,558. Pulse shaping. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. July 5, 1965 [July 6, 1964], No. 28307/65. Heading H3T. The slope of the leading or trailing edge of a pulse applied to the base of a transistor is varied by feeding back the collector voltage through a capacitor, diode and variable resistor to the base, the junction between the capacitor and diode being connected to the emitter. In Fig. 1 telephone dialling A.C. pulses from an amplifier with A.G.C. are fed through transformer U and full-wave rectifier G1, G2 to the base of the transistor whose collector current operates a relay I. The leading edge of the pulse discharges C 3 and applies negative feedback through G3 and R 4 to the base to delay the rise of the pulse. Similarly the trailing edge charges C 3 through G4 and R 4 to apply negative feedback to delay the fall of input potential. Thus by adjusting the tap on R 4 it is possible to alter the effective length of the pulse, i.e. the time between energization and release of the relay, to compensate for changes in pulse-length produced by other parts of the transmission system. The slight increase in transit time can be compensated by connecting G3 directly to the base (as in the broken line) thus introducing a permanent delay at the end of the pulse. Different capacitance values can be switched in for C 3 . R 1 prevents the feedback voltage from being shunted by the rectifier circuit G1, G2, C 2 . R 4 may be provided with a calibrated scale for reproducible setting. The operate and release valves of the relay I may also be adjustable.
