Abstract

1,036,181. Securing pulleys, bearing races &c. on shafts; bearings. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. Oct. 25, 1962 [Nov. 2, 1961], No. 39250/61. Headings F2A and F2U. A tolerance ring for securing pulleys on shafts, mounting bearing races &c., comprises a ribbon 5, Fig. 2 (not shown), of springy steel formed with transverse corregations 9, Fig. 4 (not shown), and thickenings 6 at its two edges to limit the radial compression to which the ring may be subjected. The thickenings may be made by a single fold 6, Fig. 2 (not shown), a double fold 7, Fig. 3 (not shown), or folded tabs 8, Fig. 4 (not shown), at the edges of the ribbon, or may be made by a separate thickening strip, such as a U-section edgeembracing strip, applied to the edges. Alternatively the ring may be made from metal strip which is thicker along the edges than at the centre. A limited amount of play may be provided between the thickenings and a surrounding hub &c. and the shaft 1. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates a known form of tolerance ring of uniform thickness, received in a groove in a shaft.
