Abstract

1,027,763. Raising ladders. WELINMACLACHLAN DAVITS Ltd. May 20, 1964 [May 30, 1963], No. 21692/63. Heading B8B. A davit arm 4, Fig. 1, for lowering and raising a ladder 8 over the side of a ship is rigidly connected as by a torque tube 10 to a platform 6 to which the ladder 8 is pivotably attached. The arrangement is such that when the ladder 8 is raised through cables 12 from winches 18 the ladder 8 first engages the underside of the davit arm 4 after which the davit arm 4 moves together with the platform 6 to the vertical stowing position. Guides 25, Fig. 3 (not shown), on the underside of the arm 4 serve to locate the ladder 8 against lateral movement and further means may be provided for locking the ladder 8 to the arm 4.
