Abstract

1,022,572. Rotary pipe joints. A. G. JAMME, I' LUCAS, and G. DE BONNOFOS. March 25' 1964 [March 25, 1963], No. 11794/63. Heading F2G. A rotary pipe connector comprises a connector body 11 having a body part 13 formed with an internal bore 14 terminating in an internal flange 15 in which a fluid flow port 16 is formed, a tubular connector part 17 received within the bore 14 and having an internal bore 18 in connection with port 16 and an external flange member 19 which bears flange 15, and a hollow plug member 25 sealingly located between the body and connector parts, the members 19, 25 having bearing surfaces 23, 29 which bear on each other and being shaped to provide an annular chamber 33, connected by a fluid flow passage 34 with bore 18, fluid under pressure passing through the connector, the distance between the inside surface 21 of the internal flange 15 and the bearing surface 28 of the plug member being slightly greater than the distance between the surfaces 21, 23 of the flange member 19 to enable a lubricating film to be formed between the bearing surfaces. The connector may carry up to four rotatable connector parts 17 each independently rotatable or contain one or more dependently rotatable inserts 41. In each case flanged pipes are attached to the connector by means of flanged nuts screwing on threads 51 on the inserts or connector parts of the connector.
