Abstract

1,018,656. Handling radioactive material. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Feb. 25, 1964 [Feb. 26, 1963], No. 7771/64. Heading B4Q. [Also in Division F2] An arrangement permitting two sealed enclosures 1, 2 to be placed in communication with one another consists in placing the enclosures a certain distance apart and introducing a lock 3 therebetween. Initially, the enclosure 1 is sealed by a door 6 co-operating with a gasket 8 disposed in a groove 10 in a flange 4 secured to the enclosure. Similarly, the enclosure 2 is sealed by a door 14 co-operating with a gasket 16 in a flange 12. The lock 3 is initially sealed by two doors 7, 15 having grooves 11 receiving gaskets 9, 17 co-operating with flanges 5, 13 secured to the lock 3. In order to establish communication between the enclosures, mechanism (not shown) within the lock removes the doors 6, 7, 14, 15 into a position at the bottom of the lock, Fig. 3, the sealing then being maintained by gaskets 8, 16. The gasket construction is as disclosed in Specification 1,018,655.
