Abstract

A self-propelling medicament composition comprises a suspension of a solid, substantially anhydrous medicament in a substantially anhydrous liquid carrier consisting essentially of a mixture of a non-toxic propellant having a vapour pressure of from 15 to 70 p.s.i.g. at 70 DEG F. and ethanol the medicament being substantially insoluble in the carrier and having a particle size from 0.5 to 10 microns and the ethanol being present in an amount of from 0.5% to 5% by weight of the composition. The medicament may be for example insulin, tri-iodothyronine or adrenaline; an anti-inflammatory steroid such as hydrocortisone, prednisolone or dexamethasone; an antibiotic such as penicillin neomycin polymixin, tetracycline, chlortetracycline or oxytetracycline; a broncho-dilator such as isoproterenol, phenisononone, epinephrine, phenylephrine or meterainol; an anti-nauseant such as cyclizine, meclizine, pipamazine, dimenhydrinate, or trimethobenzamide; an analgesic such as ergotamine; an antihistamine such as cyproheptadine; an antitussive such as noscapine, or mixtures thereof. Two examples are given of mixtures of dexamethasone and isoproterenol and one example of a mixture of neomycin and polymixin. The propellant may be a halogenated alkane or a mixture of such compounds.ALSO:A self propelling medicament composition comprises a suspension of a solid, substantially anhydrous medicament in a substantially anhydrous liquid carrier consisting essentially of a mixture of a non-toxic propellant having a vapour pressure of from 15 to 70p.s.i.g. at 70 DEG F and ethanol, the medicament being substantially insoluble in the carrier and having a particle size from 0.5 to 10 microns, and the ethanol being present in an amount of from 0.5% to 5% by weight of the composition.
