Abstract

A detergent composition comprises a compound of the formula <FORM:1003926/C4-C5/1> wherein R1, R2 and R3 are methyl, ethyl or hydroxyethyl groups and R4 is a C9- 15 alkyl group, in admixture with sodium tripolyphosphate or a sodium soap derived from a fat mixture of tallow and coconut oil. The composition may be formulated into bars, powders, flakes or liquid forms.ALSO:The invention comprises quaternary hydrazonium compounds of the formula <FORM:1003926/C2/1> wherein R1, R2 and R3 are methyl, ethyl or hydroxy ethyl groups and R4 is a C9- 15 alkyl group. The above compounds are prepared by acylating an unsymmetrical dialkyl hydrazine of the formula NH2-NR1,R2 with an acyl chloride of the formula R4COCl to provide an N - acyl - N1,N1 - dialkyl hydrazine of the formula R4CONH-NR1R2, quaternizing the latter with an alkyl halide R3X (where X is a halogen atom) to give a quaternary hydrazonium compound of the formula <FORM:1003926/C2/2> which is then reacted with an alkali metal hydroxide.
