Abstract
A caisson forms an integrated, protective enclosure for a nuclear steam generator of the type which includes among other equipment, a nuclear reactor supported by a metal structure, and the caisson enclosed at least in part, the pressure vessel of the reactor. The caisson is joined to and retained in the metal structure by detachable fastenings, which allow the caisson to be disengaged from the remainder of the structure. For pref. the fastenings consist of keys which fit into grooves, and are machined to suit the adjoining surfaces of the metal structure and of the caisson. The installation in which one of the main details, the vessel enclosing the nuclear reactor, can be inspected from outside. The invention resolves the problem of the inspection of components which are assembled very compactly.
