Abstract

The high energy pulse generator circuit uses a thyristor switch periodically to discharge a capacitance through a voltage step-up transformer primary winding and uses low voltages. A two transistor (2, 4) oscillator using a low positive supply voltage to generate pulses and feeds them via a diode (14) and current limiting resistance (16) to a thyristor (10) in series with a capacitance (7) and the primary (8) of an output voltage step up transformer (9). On the arrival of a pulse, the capacitance changes until a zener diode (12) avalanches, and switches on the thyristor (10) which then rapidly discharges the capacitance via the transformer primary (8) producing a high energy output pulse from the secondary. Two alternative forms of the circuit, one using a third current defining series transistor (20) and the other with more developed, forms of the oscillator (31) current limiting (33) and discharge (34) circuits are available.
