Abstract

Protective device for provisionally or temporarily covering an opening in an object such as a machine component, comprises a cover plate which is larger than the opening to be covered. The cover plate is adhesive at least where it contacts the rim of the opening, and is heat-shrinkable so that it detaches itself from the covered object when heated. Both application and removal of the cover plate are less time-consuming and easier than prior-art use of e.g. adhesive tape.
