Abstract

The stress taking a preferred orientation in a ferromagnetic material is measured using an electromagnetic collector which is not in direct contact with the material, The collector comprising two prim. windings and two sec. windings. Process comprises (a) generating prim. fluxes in the material (b) generating by means of one of the sec. windings., a first signal, the winding being disposed so that it is sensitive to the difference of the fluxes in the direction of the stress and in a direction perpendicular to it; (c) generating by means of the other sec. winding a second signal, the winding being disposed so that it is sensitive to fluxes at 450 to the above fluxes, and (d) comparing the signals so the generate a further signal representative of the stress.
