Abstract

A seive type heat exchanger applicable in cryogenic operations is provided with filling pieces forming passages for the fluid; the sieves being formed from plate material having a considerably greater conductivity for heat than the filling pieces. The filling pieces and the sieves are stacked on each other alternately and are bonded into a block in which the sieves form meshes. At least two boxes are joined to the block at opposite sides, to distribute the medium through the passages in the block in which the sections of the sieve plates forming the separate meshes are inclined at an angle to the plane of the sieve plate. The angle of inclination of the section of the sieve plate forming the mesh in the plate is 45-90 degrees. The sections of each sieve between the passages through the heat exchanger and round the circumference are formed from solid plate, and these same zones may be provided with projections for fastening the sieve into the block. Gives better results than block exchangers with wire gauze sieves.
