Abstract

The loose flange bears against the conical pipe end via an insert, which is prevented, from moving by a protrusion on flange and/or pipe end. The insert can be of elastic material (4). The design ensures that the flange ring (3) does not slide on the conical portion towards the pipe end when tightening up, or under the effect of temperature. Consequently shrinkage of the ring on cooling does not give rise to high radial forces. Furthermore, the choice of a suitable elastic material for the insert can have the effect of keeping the joint under permanent tension even on shrinkage, without any springs being needed.
