Abstract

The locking mechanism is for use on telescopically extendable shafts such as fishing rods or brush handles. The mechanism includes an expanding split sleeve (13) which is entered by an axially displacing cone (10), and is activated by relative rotation between adjacent lengths (1, 2) of the telescopic shaft. The split sleeve (13) takes the form of a cylindrical block with an axial truncated conical cavity (14), and is mounted in one end of a tubular telescopic element (1). The cone reciprocates the socket (14) form, is fixed against rotation and axial displacement in the succeeding telescopic tube element (2), and projects axially from this latter element into the socket.
