Abstract

A large dia. tube to be joined to a smaller dia. tube (2) has its internal end surface machined to form a socket (9). The end of the smaller tube (8) is initially straight and is inserted into to the larger tube until level with the socket (9). A plug (12) has one end (14) with the same dia. as the larger tube, and tapers down at its lower end (13) to the dia. of the smaller tube. The plug is driven down by a bar to deform the end of the smaller tube to fit the socket of the larger tube.
