Abstract

An electrochemical generator or battery has a low pressure gas relief valve. The valve may be set at a pressure less than one bar. The electrochemical generator has a case (1) with a vent (2) and a valve (3). The valve (3) has a U-shaped tube (6) with one end (4) opened to the inside of the generator. The other end (5) of the U tube (6) form a chamber situated higher than the fist end (4). The U-shaped tube (6) contains mercury and also has two wires (7, 8) which are part of an alarm circuit. For excess presusre in the chamber (11) of the generator, the level of the mercury in contact with the gas through the opening at one end (4) of the tube (6) drops and can allow the gas to escape to the other end (5) of the tube (6).
