Abstract
Soldering tool, functioning by the Joule effect uses two pillars or arms connected to the two poles of a current generator and joined at one of their ends by a soldering tip or bit. The novelty is that the bit consists of a foot linked to the arms by two side flanges, each flange possessing the same thickness as the foot, but the width of the flanges tapers continuously from the end of the arms to the foot. The two side flanges and the foot pref. consist of a single piece of metal selected from Mo, Ta, Ti, W or their alloys. Used esp. for soldering conductors onto integrated circuit chips. The soldering or welding operation can take =80 milliseconds, thus reducing mfg. costs.
