Abstract

Fuel cell is formed by assembling a repeated stack in the sequence (1) cathode; (2) a separator; (3) anode; (4) current collector, the components consisting of thin plates of the same size using an insulating frame round an active centre, the surfaces of the centres of (1,3) not facing (2) are fed respectively with oxidant and fuel whereas both surfaces of (2) are fed with electrolyte. The frames consist of a dodecagon ring formed by twelve segments each segment contg. an opening so that six pairs of channels are formed in the stack for feeding oxidant to (1); feeding electrolyte to (2), feeding fuel to (3); removing used oxidant; removing the electrolyte and removing reaction products. The fuel is pref. H2 hydrocarbons or alcohols with O2 or air as oxidant. Filter-press structure obtd. is suitable for mass prodn.
