Abstract

Catalytic prepn. of aromatic sulphoyl isocyanates (I) by phosgenating corresponding sulphonamides in an inert solvent at 70-150 degrees C in presence of aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic isocyanates takes place by using the isocyanate catalysts in quantities 10 (0.1-1) mol. % w.r.t sulphonamide. (I) are intermediates for pharmaceuticals and plastics. Low quantity of catalyst results in prepn. of (I) in higher yields and having a lower sulphochcloride content, allowing their use as intermediates. without purification, and obviating use of cumbersome fractionation appts.
