Abstract

The fluted nut has a cylindrical skirt with eight semicircular flutes extending over the whole length. The fluted surface is also concave along the longitudinal axis so that the flutes match the curved surface of the tubes which are to be joined. The lower internal surface of the upper part of the nut has eight tapered recesses spaced equally between the external flutes. The tubes are provided with hook-like projections which fit into the internal recesses of the nut and are held in place by a distance piece secured by a second nut screwing on to a central bolt.
