Abstract

(A) Cmpds. of formula (I): Where Ar = Ph or heteroaryl (e.g. pyridyl or pyridazinyl) opt. substd. by one or two same or different hal, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, CN, NO2 or CF3; X and Y are same or different H or 1-4C alkoxy or X+Y = OCH2O, and R' and R2 = same or different H or 1-4C alkyl, or NR'R2 forms a 5-6 membered ring, opt. contg. an O, S or another N atom, and opt. substd. by 1-4C alkyl. (B) Acid addn. salts of (I). Anti-arrhythmics. EXAMPLE 3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy) 2-phenyl 1-isoindolinone (19.7 g) was refluxed 26 hrs. in PriNH2 (50 ml), cooled, dild. with Pr2iO (100 ml), filtered, and recryst. from MeCN, giving 3-(3-isopropylamino-2-hydrox ypropoxy)-2-phenyl-1-isoindolinone (14.1 gms) m.pt. 98 degrees C.
