Abstract

A crimping press having a wire stripping attachment comprises a frame 100 attached to the press, wire gripping jaws 40, 44 mounted on a piston and cylinder arrangement 38, 34 pivotable for arcuate movement laterally between a first position in alignment with stripping blades (6), (8) (Fig. 1, not shown) and a second position in alignment with crimping dies 56, 62. The gripping jaws have flat surfaces provided with wire guiding means for e.g. projection 45 slidably received in a slot 43 on the opposite jaw. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the stripping blades are closable about the wire end against a first spring (13) by a movable cam (17) which is arranged to entrain the blades to strip the severed insulation against the action of a second spring (18). Blade (6) is connected to a lever (4) which can swing in either sense due to the movement of the cam. Fig. 6 (not shown) represents an electro-pneumatic operating circuit for controlling the operations of stripping the cable, moving the stripped cable, crimping a connector (Fig. 5, not shown) on to the stripped cable and returning the parts to their initial positions. The press could be used for crimping alone.
