Der zur Herstellung der Zigaretten oder dergleichen erforderliche Produktstrom wird in bekannten Verfahren bereits vor Eintritt in die Verteilervorrichtung endgültig zusammengestellt, gemischt und über eine Eingabevorrichtungen, die zweckmäßigerweise aus einer oder mehreren Beschickungsschleusen gebildet ist, in die Verteilervorrichtung eingeführt. Auch ist es nachteilig, daß sich der komplette, aus unterschiedlichen Komponenten, nämlich Tabakkomponenten und Zusatzstoffen, gebildete Produktstrom während des Transports durch die Verteilervorrichtung mindestens teilweise entmischt. Zum besseren Verständnis wird an dieser Stelle das Prinzip des Sichtens näher erläutert. Das Sichten erfolgt üblicherweise in einer Sichtstrecke, in der ein Luftstrom in einem nahezu geschlossenen Kreislauf in Transportrichtung strömt. Der Luftstrom bzw. die Strömungsgeschwindigkeit ist derart ausgewählt/eingestellt, daß leichte, also zur Verarbeitung geeignete Anteile des Produktstroms, auch als "erwünschte" Tabakfraktion bezeichnet, in Richtung der Zigarettenstrangmaschine gelenkt bzw. geleitet werden, während schwerere, also üblicherweise zur Verarbeitung nicht geeignete Anteile, wie z.B. die Rippen der Tabakblätter, Steine, Plastikteilchen oder andere Fremdkörper, durch die Schwerkraft und gegen den Luftstrom nach unten fallen und abgeführt werden.
