Description

The invention relates to a decorative sheet usable for example for the manufacture of laminated panels, this sheet comprising metallic particles or metallized flakes. This sheet can also be an overlay sheet. The invention further relates to a composition for printing such a decorative sheet.

We know that there are mainly two kinds of laminated panels: so-called high pressure panels and so-called low pressure panels.

For many years, laminates have been used as materials in homes and commercial and industrial premises. Typical applications of such laminates are the surface coating of walls, table tops, furniture and the like.

The so-called high pressure laminates are produced from a core consisting of sheets impregnated with resin. The sheets are generally sheets of kraft paper which has been impregnated with a thermosetting resin and more particularly with a phenolic resin.

When the kraft paper has been impregnated with resin, the sheets are dried, cut, then stacked on top of each other. The number of sheets in the stack depends on the applications and can vary between 3 and 9, but can be higher.

Then placed on the pile of sheets constituting the core, a decorative sheet which is generally a sheet of paper bearing a printed or light-colored pattern, and impregnated with a thermosetting resin which does not blacken with heat, for example melamine-formaldehyde resins, benzoguanamine-formaldehyde resins, unsaturated polyester resins. In general, a protective cover sheet, without a pattern and transparent in the laminate, is placed above the decorative sheet. final. In terms of profession, this protective sheet is called "over-lay". This overlay sheet is traditionally made by draining an aqueous suspension of unrefined cellulose fibers. The stack of impregnated sheets is then placed in a press fitted with a sheet giving the surface condition. Then, the stack is densified by heating and pressing to obtain a unitary structure.

During densification, the thermosetting resins are transformed into thermosetting form and an extremely hard material with a decorative effect is obtained.

So-called low pressure laminates are produced in a similar manner to that of high pressure laminates, but the decorative sheet is laminated directly on a particle board or any other basic support.

The decorative sheet is traditionally made in the following manner. A sheet of paper is made by draining on a flat canvas an aqueous suspension of cellulose fibers, long and / or short, bleached, fillers, retention agents, binders. The sheet thus formed is drained, pressed and dried to form a sheet of paper. This sheet is then printed. The impression usually made is a gravure printing, by means of engraved rollers. The engraving technique consists in making a drawing, for example reproducing a wood or a purely fancy artistic drawing. Then we take the photograph of this drawing and from the films obtained, we engrave one or more printing rollers. Each cylinder then passes through an ink bath, and the indentations or imprints engraved in the cylinder are filled with ink which is then transferred to the paper. Generally one to three separate and successive prints are made using one to three rollers.

The decorative sheets have different colors depending on the viewing angle. Such sheets have been described in the French patent of the applicant FR-A-2,442,719.

There has been described in application JP-A-63 084 936, filed by IBIDEN, the manufacture of high pressure laminate panels which comprise an overlay printed with an ink containing a gloss agent and a binder which is a melamine resin. The brightening agent consists of powder coated with titanium oxide. This powder can for example be a metallic powder, mica, mother-of-pearl. This brightening agent has a particle diameter of 10 to 60 micrometers. It is mentioned that if the particle size is greater than 60 micrometers, the micas suspended in the binder will tend to precipitate. The surface of the powder is coated with titanium oxide by melting the titanium oxide. The papers obtained according to this Japanese application therefore include relatively expensive products because they are not easy to obtain because of their small particle size which requires significant processing. In addition, the method of coating by fusion of titanium oxide is not easy to implement.

It is a decorative paper that is not specifically intended for laminates; it is neither mentioned that the particles are especially resistant to heat, solvents and light nor that it is possible to put a protective sheet without attenuating the iridescent effect.

According to the prior art, the effects obtained with powders are uniform because the particles are spherical and of small particle size.

In addition, the powders according to the prior art, due to their spherical shape and their small particle size have the disadvantages of settling easily and having a low covering power.

According to known methods, it is common to use aluminum powder to create a decorative effect. Now aluminum oxidizes on contact with water, there is a release of hydrogen, which is obviously dangerous; moreover, aluminum tarnishes and therefore loses its metallic luster; these particles have very limited conditions of use.

The particles are also subjected to high temperatures, of the order of about 160 ° C., during the stratification of the sheets.

In addition, laminates, when in use, are often exposed to visible or artificial light for extended periods of time. For example, the applicant has described in French patent application FR-A-89 05541 a sheet intended to be subjected to the prolonged action of light, having a first shade with visible light of wavelength between 400 and 800 nanometers and a second shade different from the first, in artificial light with a wavelength less than 400 nanometers and greater than 800 nanometers; this print comprises at least one luminescent pigment.

L'invention vise à pallier ces inconvénients. The invention aims to overcome these drawbacks.

A first object of the invention is to provide a sheet usable for laminates, this sheet having metallic effects of various sizes, colors and shapes which can be chosen according to the desired decorative effects.

A second object of the invention is therefore to use shiny particles having a covering power greater than the powders usually used and difficult to settle.

A third object of the invention is to introduce the particles, either in bulk into the sheet, during its manufacture by a papermaking process for example, or by printing the sheet with an ink containing the particles, a binder and a solvent. of the binder. This is why it must be possible to use these particles in an aqueous medium and / or in a non-aqueous solvent medium; they must be non-reactive with the medium chosen.

A fourth object of the invention is to deposit the particles during the impregnation of thermosetting resin, this deposit being regular and homogeneous.

A fifth object of the invention is to obtain prints resistant to visible or non-visible light.

One means of the invention is to use metallic particles, or metallized flakes, which are resistant to water and / or to non-aqueous solvents, to heat and to visible or non-visible light.

To achieve the aims of the invention, particles obtained by cutting thin sheets can be used according to the invention. They can have very varied geometric shapes, for example a hexagon, rectangle, square, star shape. They can also have various sizes. The shinier effect will be better the larger the size. Preferably, the largest dimension of the metallized flakes is greater than 80 micrometers, more preferably at least equal to 100 micrometers.

These varied shapes and sizes have the advantage of providing a wide variety of decorative effects, as mentioned. previously.

The sheet made according to the invention could be used as a base sheet for carrying out the printing comprising luminescent pigments.

Thus the invention provides a laminate sheet having a metallic effect decoration characterized in that it comprises metallic particles or metallized flakes which are not sensitive to water, resistant at least to a temperature of 100 ° C. and resistant to light, said particles or flakes being coated with a protective layer of varnish.

The metallized flakes used for the invention can be obtained by cutting a metallized plastic film. The metal layer can be covered with a protective layer of varnish. The metal used is preferably aluminum. The film is preferably polyester. The metal particles can also be obtained by cutting a highly polished aluminum sheet also covered with a protective layer of varnish. This protective layer is preferably a varnish based on epoxy resin.

These glitter can be colored. The sequins can have metallic tones, for example gold, silver, and be of a single or multicolored color.

These particles have a thickness of about ten micrometers; their shapes and sizes are varied.

The sheet used according to the invention is preferably based on cellulose fibers. It is possibly colored. It can contain non-cellulosic fibers, for example polyolefin fibers, polyester fibers.

The invention provides a laminate sheet, having a metallic effect decoration, for which said particles metallic or metallized can be incorporated during its manufacture. The glitter can be added to the aqueous suspension containing the cellulose fibers, the mixture is then drained on a canvas, the sheet obtained is then pressed between cylinders and then dried. We can print this sheet to achieve a classic decor (faux wood , faux marble, etc ...); the decor is enhanced by the metallic effect of the support sheet.

Finally, the flakes or particles can be deposited during the impregnation of the sheet with a thermosetting resin by dusting or spraying when the impregnating resin is still liquid and therefore not thermoset.

For example, one can use a powder distributor made by PILLON-ANDRIOT and patented under the number EP-A-307 318.

The invention also provides a laminate sheet having a metallic effect for which the metallic particles or metallized flakes are applied to the sheet by heliographic printing of an ink containing said particles. The sheets produced according to the invention can be impregnated with a thermosetting resin.

The invention provides an ink composition for heliographic printing of a laminate sheet having a metallic effect decoration, characterized in that it comprises:
  • at least metallic flakes not sensitive to water, resistant at least to a temperature of 100 ° C and resistant to non-visible natural light
  • at least one vinyl or (meth) acrylic binder
  • at least one solvent
This solvent can be an alcohol, water or a water-alcohol mixture.
This ink may contain rheology regulating agents.

The invention also provides another ink composition which includes:
  • at least metallized flakes not sensitive to water, resistant at least to a temperature of 100 ° C and resistant to natural or invisible light.
  • at least one aqueous binder based on casein
  • at least one insoluble casein
  • at least one water / alcohol solvent

The Applicant has surprisingly found that the decorative optical effect given by a sheet decorated with the flakes chosen for the invention is not altered by the installation of a standard overlay sheet. Thus, the invention also provides laminates comprising a decorative sheet having a metallic effect decoration due to metallic or metallized particles not sensitive to aqueous or non-aqueous solvents, resistant to temperatures above 100 ° C and resistant to light and comprising possibly a protective overlay sheet.

The invention also makes it possible to supply laminates comprising a decorative sheet having a metallic effect decoration comprising the metallic particles, metallized previously mentioned, this sheet being covered with an overlay sheet to protect it and which would also be decorated with previously mentioned particles. .

L'invention sera mieux comprise à l'aide des exemples suivants. The invention will be better understood using the following examples.

A laminate with an intense metallic effect is obtained.
EXEMPLE 4EXAMPLE 4

An overlay sheet according to the invention is produced. To an aqueous suspension of cellulose fibers, 15% by dry weight, based on the fibers, of flakes of polyester sheet metallized with aluminum and covered with an epoxy varnish is added. These sequins are multicolored.

The mixture is then used on a paper machine to form a sheet having a weight of 60 g / m².

Then a high pressure laminate is produced according to the technique described in Example 1 using a plain decor sheet of black color and the overlay sheet produced as above.

A laminate having a metallic effect is obtained. This laminate is resistant to abrasion, the particles have a good resistance.

EXEMPLE 5EXAMPLE 5

A laminate paper is made from a suspension of cellulose fibers to which we add:
  • . 10% mineral fillers (kaolin or talc),
  • . 5% of GR SILVEX 1537 or 1258 stabilized aluminum paste sold by CARBONNEL and JACQUEMOT (France),
  • . optionally around 3% of an organic or mineral pigment usually used for laminate papers,
  • . 1.5% melamine formalin resin as a wet strength agent.
  • . 1% aluminum sulphate as a retention agent.

The pH is adjusted to 7 using sodium carbonate or calcium.

The sheet of paper is formed and dried. It is impregnated with a melamine formaldehyde resin. We laminate as in the previous examples, with or without overlay. A panel is obtained having the appearance of a metallic paint. This metallic appearance is as intense for the panel with overlay as for the panel without overlay.

EXEMPLE 6EXAMPLE 6

A sheet is produced as in Example 5 but this sheet is printed after having dried it, to make a marble decoration. We impregnate and laminate as before.

By comparing the panel obtained according to the invention with a panel manufactured with a decorative sheet which does not include the aluminum paste, it is found, unexpectedly, that the printed decoration is enhanced by the metallization of the sheet.
