Description

The invention relates to a container with a screw cap - both made of plastic -, the screw cap having a conical sealing ring which, in the closed state, presses from the inside sealingly against the mouth edge of the spout.

Such containers, such as bottles, canisters, jugs, cans, are often used for highly concentrated liquid or pasty chemicals, such as for pesticides.

So far, the mouth of the spout has been sealed with a film after filling to ensure absolute tightness at least until the contents are opened and removed for the first time. If, for example, spraying devices are connected directly to the outlet nozzle, the sealing film must be removed completely. It is usually contaminated with the chemical and its disposal is problematic. The mouth of the outlet nozzle of such containers required a mechanical after-treatment, so that the film could be welded on in an absolutely sealing manner. After loosening or piercing the sealing film, it lost its function and there is no longer a tight seal. Apart from the sealing, cone seals, cup seals and sealing inserts made of rubber or other flexible materials are known. All of these embodiments are limited in their application. In particular, rubber seals swell under the influence of various chemicals and lose their sealing effect in this way. If a closed container falls from a certain height, there is a risk that the screw cap will snap off or that the container mouth will leak due to deformation.

The object is to improve a container with a screw cap so that a tight and fall-proof closure is ensured even without a sealing film.

This object is achieved in that an annular groove is inserted into the end face of the screw cap between the conical sealing ring and the circumferential wall, the opening of which is narrower than its width, an elastomeric O-ring being arranged in this annular groove, and that in the closed state the muzzle edge is tight the peripheral wall rests.

This ensures that the sealing seat between the cone sealing ring and the mouth of the outlet nozzle Ring seal largely protects against the contents of the vessel, so that the risk of swelling is significantly reduced. The O-ring seal primarily takes over the sealing against the escape of vapors and it has the function of a safety seal, so to speak, in the event that the upstream sealing seat between the conical sealing ring and the mouth of the outlet nozzle does not seal sufficiently for manufacturing or other reasons. Should the O-ring nevertheless swell, it can only expand through the narrow opening in the direction of the front edge of the mouth of the outlet nozzle due to its storage in an undercut ring groove, thereby increasing the sealing effect. Due to the special dimensioning of the wall of the mouth edge, namely that it lies tightly against the inside of the closure cap under the pressure of the conical sealing ring on the circumferential wall of the closure cap, it is prevented that the mouth is deformed or the cap can come off when the container falls. With such vessels, the approval requirement is met, namely that the closure cap must fit tightly and tightly when the vessel falls, for example from a height of 1.50 m. This eliminates the need for a sealing film with all of its disadvantages. The edge of the mouth should under no circumstances exert considerable pressure on the peripheral wall, because otherwise difficulties could arise when unscrewing the closure cap.

According to an equivalent embodiment, the screw cap has an internally flat end section, and the conical sealing ring and the annular groove with an O-ring are arranged on or in an insert disk.

  • Fig. 1 den Behälter im geschnittenen Abriß und
  • Fig. 2 die Einzelheit A in vergrößertem Maßstab.
In the drawing, the new container is shown purely schematically in one embodiment and explained in more detail below. Show it:
  • Fig. 1 the container in cut outline and
  • Fig. 2 shows the detail A on an enlarged scale.

The container is labeled 1 and the screw cap is labeled 2. They are made of plastic by injection molding. The container 1 is provided with an outlet 3, which has an external thread 4. The actual mouth edge 5 of this outlet nozzle 3 is free of thread. The screw cap 2 has a flat part (end face) 6, which merges into a peripheral wall 7. At the transition there is a thread-free section 8 on the peripheral edge 7, to which an internal thread 9 corresponding to the external thread 4 then connects. A conical sealing ring 10 protrudes from the end face 6 into the outlet connection 3 and forms a sealing seat with its mouth rim 5. The mouth edge 5 is pressed so far out that it is almost against the thread-free section 8, but does not exert any significant pressure on it. The correct dimensioning of the thickness of the mouth rim 5 and the conical sealing ring 10 is therefore important. Between the peripheral wall 7 and the conical sealing ring 10 there is an annular groove 11, the opening 12 of which is narrower than its width. In it an elastomeric O-ring 13 is arranged, against which the end edge of the mouth edge 5 presses sealingly.
