Description

The present invention relates to continuous casting machines used for the production of flat products with rectangular section called slabs.

These machines comprise a chassis carrying, at its top, an oscillation table on which the mold is fixed and, below, a corset of guide rollers forming a generally curved passage extending the cavity of the mold.

The mold is formed by four plates, two small plates clamped between two large plates, which are mounted on a frame carrying means for applying clamping forces on the large plates and means for adjusting the spacing of the small plates: this frame is fixed on the oscillation table. By moving the small plates after loosening the large plates, you can change the length of the mold cavity and therefore the width of the cast product. To change the thickness of the cast product, change the small plates. For this, we have to dismantle the mold, change the small plates and put them back on the oscillation table. So that this operation takes the least possible time, there are generally several ingot molds equipped for the casting of slabs of different thicknesses and one mold is replaced by another.

The guide roller corset is in several parts. The upper part placed immediately below the mold is formed of small diameter rollers placed very close to each other. To change the thickness of the cast product, it is also necessary to disassemble this part of the corset to adjust the spacing of the rollers. This disassembly is done from above, through the oscillation table, after the mold has been removed. The other parts of the corset are made up of pairs of rollers, the spacing of which can be adjusted without having to dismantle them.

The ingot mold park represents a significant investment and to reduce its cost, it is proposed, in accordance with the present invention, to remove the frame from the ingot mold and to mount the large plates, the clamping means and the position adjustment means. small plates on the oscillation table, and small plates on supports integral with the adjustment means. The means for fixing the large plates on the oscillation table, on the one hand, and small plates on their support, on the other hand, are designed to allow rapid installation and disassembly of the plates and to ensure the connection of the cooling water circuits of the plates to the water supply and evacuation pipes which lead to and from the oscillation table and the support for small plates. The adjustment means and / or the supports of the small plates are eclipsable and the clamping means of the large plates are placed near the edges of the opening made in the oscillation table to clear this opening and allow disassembly of the upper part of the guide roller corset through the oscillation table, after dismantling the large plates. The means for adjusting the position of the small plates may be pivotally mounted around axes parallel to the short sides of the mold and perpendicular to the axis of the latter, and means will be provided to tilt them around these axes to release the opening of the oscillation table.

The clamping means may include a first set of cylinders applying one of the large plates to abutments of the oscillation table defining a reference surface and a second set of cylinders acting on the other large plate to clamp the small plates between the two large plates.

Instead of being fixed individually on the oscillation table, the clamping means and the means for adjusting the spacing of the small plates situated on the same side of the oscillation table can be mounted on a frame fixed on the oscillation table to form a removable assembly. This solution facilitates the dismantling of these means when this is necessary, for example if they have been damaged as a result of a molten steel leak.

The continuous slab casting machine shown in the drawings is of the curved type. It consists of a vertical frame 10 carrying at its top an oscillation table 12 on which is mounted a mold 14.

The frame 10 also supports a corset of guide rollers in several parts. The part upper 16 of the corset, which is located immediately below the ingot mold, is housed in the upper part 18, in the form of a frame of the chassis 10. It comprises a cage-shaped chassis carrying two parallel rows of rollers and provided on its sides of four pins 20, two on each side, resting on chairs 22 fixed inside the frame 18. The upper part of the corset can be dismantled from above, by means of an overhead crane. The other parts of the corset consist of segments 24 fixed to the frame 10 and each comprising several pairs of rollers.

An eccentric mechanism 26 makes it possible to impose on the oscillation table 12 reciprocating movements of small amplitude in a direction substantially parallel to the tangent to the axis of the mold cavity at its lower end.

Ce mécanisme peut, par exemple, être du type faisant l'objet de brevet No 81.15430 et du certificat d'addition No 82.06730.This mechanism can, for example, be of the type covered by patent No. 81.15430 and addition No. 82.06730 certificate.

The oscillation table consists of a rectangular section frame.

The mold consists of four composite plates or panels, two narrow panels 28 29 and two wide panels 30, 31 assembled to form a rectangular section molding cavity, the two narrow panels which constitute the short sides of the mold. being clamped between the two wide panels which constitute the long sides.

The long sides of the mold are each formed of an inner copper plate 32 fixed on a steel box 34 serving both to give sufficient rigidity to the sides and to supply cooling water to channels formed in the copper plate, and to evacuate. At each of their ends, the boxes 34 have an ear 36. It is through these ears that the long sides of the mold rest on the short sides of the oscillation table. More specifically, these ears are fixed, by rapid fixing means, to water boxes 38 mounted on the short sides of the oscillation table. These water boxes are connected to pipes 40 which make it possible to bring the cooling water inside the boxes 34 and to evacuate it through the ears 36 which are hollow.

Each of the water boxes on which the large outer side 30 of the mold, which is fixed, is made integral with the oscillation table by a horizontal axis parallel to the large faces on this side. This assembly (Figure 5) allows certain movements of the water boxes and therefore of the panel 30 relative to the table and facilitates the machining of the table and the long sides and their assembly.

The other large side 31 must be able to be moved perpendicular to its plane to adjust the width of the mold. This is why the water boxes to which it is attached are mounted on the short sides of the oscillation table so that they can slide along them. For this, the water boxes are provided with heels which are retained in slides secured to the oscillation table (Figure 6). A clearance is provided between the heels and the slides to allow certain movements of the panel relative to the oscillation table.

The large outer side 30 is held in abutment against four stops 41, provided at two different levels on the short sides of the oscillation table, by two screw jacks 42 mounted on the oscillation table, near the short sides. These jacks are situated at an intermediate level between those of the upper and lower stops 41, preferably substantially at the level of the result of the hydrostatic pressure forces acting on the long sides of the mold when it is in service, that is to say - say two thirds of the height from the level of the liquid metal. The stops 41 define a reference surface which allows perfect alignment of the inner face of the side 30 and of the bearing surface defined by the outer row of the rollers of the corset 16.

Two other jacks 44, placed opposite the jacks 42 on the other long side of the oscillation table, act on the long side 31 of the mold to clamp the short sides 28 and 29 between the long sides 30 and 31.

The axes of the jacks 42 and 44 are in two vertical planes located near the short sides of the oscillation table and passing approximately in the middle of the stops 41.

The short sides of the mold are each formed of an inner copper plate 50 fixed on a steel support plate 52 serving to stiffen the copper plate and to bring the cooling water to the channels formed in the latter and to evacuate it. The plates 50 and 52 form an assembly which is fixed to a support plate 54 by rapid fixing means which simultaneously ensure the connection of the water inlet and outlet orifices arranged in the plate 52 to inlet pipes and starting points connected to plate 54.

Each support plate is fixed to the end of the arm or arms of a device 56 for adjusting the position of the short side of the mold which is mounted on the short side adjacent to the oscillation table. In the embodiment shown in the drawing, these devices comprise two telescopic arms 58, the length of which can be modified, to move the short side and adjust its inclination, using motorized screw and nut mechanisms.

These devices 56 are mounted on the oscillation table so as to be able to tilt by pivoting about horizontal axes 60 parallel to the faces of the short sides of the mold. This tilting is controlled by jacks 62 and allows the opening of the oscillation table to be cleared and the upper part of the guide corset to be dismantled through this opening.

The panels 28, 29, 30, 31 are provided with hooking means making it possible to suspend them from the hook of an overhead crane.

To dismantle them, use a lifting beam 64 constituted by a frame allowing the simultaneous disassembly of the four panels and possibly of the upper part of the guide corset. The panels 30 and 31 and the plates 50-52 on the short sides are hooked to the lifter, the rods of the jacks 42 and 44 are removed, the fastenings between the plates 50 and 52 on the short sides and their supports 54 are removed and between the ears of the panels 30 and 31 and the water boxes 38 and the panels and the plates are released by lifting them by means of the overhead crane. To replace new plates, reverse operations are carried out.

When it is necessary to disassemble the upper part of the corset, either to carry out operations maintenance, either to adjust the spacing of the rollers to a new value to change the thickness of the cast slabs, it is also necessary to dismantle the panels and plates constituting the sides of the mold; these two operations can be carried out successively or simultaneously. In all cases, after having detached the plates 50-52 from their support, the latter are retracted and the adjustment devices 56 are tilted, by means of the jacks 62, to clear the opening of the oscillation table (FIG. 4) and allow this part of the corset to be lifted and passed through this opening. The clamping cylinders 42 and 44 are arranged near the short sides of the oscillation table so as not to hinder the disassembly of the corset.

The water boxes 38, the clamping cylinders 42 and 44 and the adjustment devices 56 are fixed to the oscillation table so that they can be dismantled for repair or maintenance. As a variant, the water boxes, the clamping cylinders and the adjustment devices situated on the same side of the oscillation table can be mounted on a common frame removably fixed on the oscillation table. This solution allows rapid disassembly of these organs when they have been damaged, for example following a breakthrough in metal. All of these members could also be mounted on a frame of the same shape and size as the oscillation table and removably fixed thereon.

Instead of resting on the oscillation table by means of water boxes, the long sides of the mold could rest directly on the oscillation table or on the frames carrying the clamping cylinders and the position adjustment devices. on the short sides, the cooling water supply and discharge pipes being connected to the long sides by quick couplings or other known means.

The devices for adjusting the position of the short sides of the mold could be mounted on slides, instead of being pivotally mounted, and moved apart in translation to clear the opening of the oscillation table. In the case where only slight variations in the width of the slabs produced are provided, it may be sufficient to retract the supports from the short sides, without moving the adjustment devices, to clear the opening of the oscillation table.

It is understood that all the modifications which can be made to the embodiment described by the use of equivalent technical means are within the scope of the invention.
