Description

The present invention relates to an electrical or electronic device housing and aims more particularly to solve various problems posed by the electrical connection of the device.

The housings of known electrical or electronic devices pose different problems due to the electrical connection of the device and in particular in terms of control and assembly tests.

In general, the functional tests to control the device can only be carried out after the connection, or connection, of the electrical wires, which leads to handling problems.

In existing technology, it can be seen that the fixing of the electrical wires is carried out on the cover or on the box itself. In both cases, the connection is made in the same cavity as that which contains the functional part of the device, which requires the prior closing of this cavity in order to be able to carry out the electrical tests; the closure is most often obtained by thermal welding or by bonding.

  • -a) pour les étapes de montage consécutives à celle du raccordement des fils, la manipulation des appareils est peu aisée et pose de très grandes difficultés notamment sur des chaînes de montage automatisé;
There are known from documents FR-A-2,269,800 and GB-A-2,110,886 electrical connectors comprising boxes protecting terminals for connecting electrical wires establishing an electrical connection between first and second compartments of the box. Also known from document US-A-4,352,538 is an electrical connector designed to be mounted, after connection to electrical wires, on a mounting panel. The connector housings described in these documents are not designed to receive an electrical appliance subjected to electrical tests before its connection to electrical wires. However, the connection of electrical wires during the assembly of the electrical apparatus poses two important problems:
  • -a) for the assembly steps consecutive to that of the connection of the wires, the handling of the devices is not very easy and poses very great difficulties, in particular on automated assembly lines;
  • -b) for inventory management of electrical devices and their components. Indeed, non-standardization implies great diversity in lengths of wires and the management of stocks of the various sub-assemblies provided with their wires is therefore very complex.

The object of the invention is to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and to reduce the costs of manufacturing electrical or electronic devices mainly at the level of assembly, control and management of parts. To this end, the present invention provides an electrical or electronic device housing comprising a first closed cavity in which the functional part of the device is disposed, a second electrical connection cavity, separated from the first cavity by a sealed wall traversed by at least one metal thimble for electrical connection, a first end of which is located inside the first cavity, provides the electrical connection with the functional part of the system and the second end of which is located inside of the second connection cavity , is provided with means for ensuring the electrical connection with an electric wire, characterized in that the second cavity is closed by a removable cover to release access to the second end of the terminal without opening the first cavity.

  • - La figure 1 est une section montrant de manière schématique un mode de réalisation de l'invention appliqué à un potentiomètre électrique;
  • - la figure 2 est une vue de dessus de la cosse métallique de la figure 1 ;
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
  • - Figure 1 is a section schematically showing an embodiment of the invention applied to an electric potentiometer;
  • - Figure 2 is a top view of the metal lug of Figure 1;
  • - Figure 3 is a partial side view along arrow F of Figure 1, the cover having been raised; and
  • - Figure 4 is a partial section along line 4-4 of Figure 1.

The housing 14 comprises a first cavity 16 in which the functional part 12 of the potentiometer is disposed and a second cavity 18 for electrical connection.

The two cavities are separated by a wall 20 which makes the cavities 16 and 18 independent and sealed.

La portion du boîtier 14 constituant la cloison 20 est traversée par une cosse métallique de connexion électrique 22.The portion of the housing 14 constituting the partition 20 is crossed by a metal terminal for electrical connection 22.

A first end 24 of the metal lug 22 is located inside the first cavity 16 in which it provides the electrical connection with the functional part 12 of the electrical appliance in a manner which will be described later.

The second end 26 of the metal lug 22 located inside the second electrical connection cavity 18 is provided with means 28 making it possible to ensure the electrical connection of the metal lug 22 with an electric wire 30. These means 28 are produced by a central slot illustrated in FIG. 2. This slot 28 is flared at its open end to allow the wire to be released from its insulator when the latter is introduced laterally into the slot.

The metal lug 22 is inserted from the right, considering FIG. 1, into the passage 32 formed in the partition 20 in which it is held in the mounted position by teeth 34.

The electrical connection of the first end 24 of the metal lug 22 is obtained by means of a loop whose wavy end 36 is inserted by elastic deformation between two fixed wings 38 of the housing 14. The electrical connection is ensured by contacting the end corrugated 36 of the terminal with a metal track 40 connected to the functional part 12 of the rotary potentiometer 10.

L'étanchéité et l'isolement électrique de la cavité 16The first cavity 16 is closed, after insertion of the metal lug 22, by a first cover 42. The sealing and the electrical insulation of the cavity 16

The electrical connection between the second end 26 of the metal lug 22 and the wire 30 is produced by the means 28 which make it possible to ensure the connection by displacement of the insulation of the wire. This operation is carried out by introducing the wire and its insulator 30 into the housing 44 provided for this purpose in the housing 14 and in the slot 28 of the terminal 22, the insulator then being held in the flared part of the slot while the wire is pressed against the bottom of slot 28 in metal-metal contact with the terminal. The closure of the second cavity 18 is obtained as for the cavity 16 by means of a second cover 46 and the sealing is completed by a supply of resin 48 which surrounds the sheath of the wire 30 at the level of the housing 44.

In order to ensure the mechanical retention of the wire 30, the wall 20 cavity 18 and the second cover 46 are provided with lugs 50 and 52 respectively, arranged opposite and which pinch the sheath of the wire 30 when the second cover 46 is in place . it is understood that the invention is not limited to the use of a single terminal, but also applies to multi-wire electrical connections for which the number of terminals passing through the partition is greater than the unit, likewise than the number of contact leads.

The housing design which has just been described makes it possible in particular to carry out the electrical control tests in the second cavity by connecting to the terminal 22, while the final control of the electrical continuity between the terminal 22 and the wire is carried out later.
