aus Kienöl.from pine oil.
The pine oils obtained by dry distillation of spruce wood, spruce stumps or the like are brought into the trade in a purified state as so-called wood turpentine oils. If these oils are not changed in their constitution during cleaning, for example through high heating, the action of concentrated, inorganic acids, oxidizing agents, which cause a disintegration of the most valuable constituents, this oil, in its purified state, can be used in many Cases can be used as a substitute for the turpentine oil obtained from the resin. the Resin turpentine oils differ from pine oils in their smell and theirs chemical and physical properties, which result from the resinification of the pine and the resulting by-products are caused. Above all is the acid absorption capacity The pine oil is significantly lower than that of the turpentine oil, which makes the pine oil usable as a solvent in paints and as a desiccant in linseed oil is greatly reduced. By taking up oxygen the terpenes resinify over time and take the distillate of the resinified terpenes as a result of the resinification acidic by-products very easily restore oxygen. It is therefore 'the Pine oils, if they are resinified by oxidation and then distilled, the properties of the turpentine oil obtained from the resin. The previous attempts, the purified pine oil by treatment with oxidizing agents Making turpentine oil equivalent in terms of smell and other properties did not have the desired effect Success because the oxidizing agents chosen adversely affected the terpenes and completely changed the pine oil; In the main, however, the pine oil lacked that for Resin formation necessary acidic nature.
Die chemischen und phy'sikaiischen Eigenschaften dieser durch Destillation der verharzten öle gewonnenen Produkte gleichen vollkommen dem aus dem Fichten-Analogous to the natural resinification process, the present process aims to resinify purified pine oil with the addition of about 1 percent of the organic acids (acetic acid or resin acids) formed during the natural resinification of the pine through oxidation using moist ozone or moist air containing ozone under pressure. It has been shown that the pine oils resinify only slowly when exposed to the known oxidizing agents, including ozone, but significantly faster when acidified with resin acids. Accordingly, ι percent acetic acid or resin acids are dissolved in the pine oil and ozone is now passed through the autoclave filled with pine oil and provided with a stirrer, at the bottom of which there is water, under a pressure of about 5 atm. act * 6o ken. Depending on the duration of the ozonation, the pine oil becomes more or less gummy. The oil is then distilled under addition of χ / 2 percent quicklime with direct steam. The chemical and physical properties of these products, obtained by distilling the resinified oils, are completely similar to those of the spruce

Turpentine oil obtained directly from resin, namely the pine oils obtained by distilling a certain tree species, which are resinified by this process, have the same properties as the resin turpentine oils obtained from the same tree species; z. B. The pine oils obtained from the wood or the roots of Pinus palustris by dry distillation and resinified by this process are completely similar to the oil of turpentine distilled from the resin of the same tree.
