Abstract

Described is a method of producing emulsion polymers on an industrial scale from at least partially hydrophobic monomers in an agitator reactor vessel with a useful volume of 2 to 80 m<3>, using a metering technique with a monomer-addition rate of 15 to 60 % by wt. per hour of the total amount of monomer to be added, by polymerizing and distilling a water/monomer mixture under reduced pressure and feeding the condensed water/monomer mixture back to the reactor vessel.
