Very similar vibes - really great, doesn't hold your hand for anything, very character-driven with sometimes disparate ideas falling together into a much greater piece. Not very similar in story or premise, but if you like one you'll probably like the other.
Young boy protagonist in interesting situations edging you about romance and what the meaning of life is

Sonny boy should be seen as more of a collection if ideas rather than a cinematic piece. In all honesty i can say the narrative is lackluster and should have been developed better in order to create a coherent storyline. It tries to convey different aspects of human society and explores deeper to the meaning behind it in an abstract way. Same can be said for tatami galaxy, it cant really be graded as that heartfelt romance but an attempt to express realistic choices of an individual using a residual plot that can leave you mindfucked

Both have similar themes dealt in similar ways.
Amazing characters and direction.
Both are slow burners with a very good payoff.

Similar themes, art style, and over-all vibe. Both have satisfying but unconventional story arcs and conclusions

Both are visually vibrant and stylistically unique with lots of color and bizarre settings. Full of symbolism and surrealism that makes you replay scenes and rack your brains for hours. The MCs in each show are of different ages, but I'd consider them both contemplative, existential "coming of age" stories.
